Default elementalist/necromancer build. blood spammer?

all right....this might be dumb, it might not be...hear me out.

i'm trying to roll up an elementalist//necromancer right now that uses blood magic to attack. for the most part, he's just spamming all the health stealing spells like crazy during battle, and blood renewal helps out alot too. i'm also using one or two curses here and there, but for the most part, i'm jamming ALL of his points into energy storage and blood magic. i decided to do this because i figured a guy that could just continuously spam life stealing spells could both do damage well (although not properly nuke) and survive well (although not properly tank). an elementalist, on account of all the energy storage, i figured would be the only class that could pull this off, so here i am.

thoughts? right now i'm level 8 and i'm pretty well soloing everything in sight. got creamed by a group of 3 level 6 charr though. that was kinda ugly. let me know if you guys think this is even viable in the later game.

The most important part of energy management is not max energy, but energy regen. You will benefit not only from greater energy regen via soul reaping as a primary necromancer, but the ability to use runes to boost attribute levels will make a primary necro categorically superior when it comes to using a bar full of necromancer skills.

If you want to play as a necromancer you will get the best results playing a necromancer primary.

Blood magic is already impossibly bad on a necro. Having a big number next to your energy bar doesn't mean that number goes up any quicker than normal

You'll need to think about how you're going to manage your energy later in-game. Element-specific attunements will not work with blood skills, neither will Elemental Attunement, so, you're stuck with Ether Renewal (YUCK!), Ether Prodigy, Energy Boon, Master of Magic or Ether Prism. Personally I think Ether Prodigy or Master of Magic would be "ok". There is also Glyph of Lesser Energy you can use.

I've never used blood magic much, even on my necro, but I suggest you actively look at your build to make sure it works well in terms of skill synergy, skill usage and energy management. Also consider what the build is for. Support or Damage? If you wanted to focus more on damage you need to remember you can't use Necromancer Blood Magic runes to buff your skills...you will probably be able to do a better job playing as an actual ele.

I had fun with the following blood build with my Necro, but it does use a couple Soul Reaping skills, and the energy return for the dead helps this build. Well it does until they kill soul reaping (You will need all campaigns.)

Nightfall - Blood of the Aggressor- Sacrifice 5% Health. If target foe is attacking, you steal up to 5...41 Health. Otherwise, that foe takes 5...41 damage

Factions- Lifebane Strike- Target foe takes 12...41 shadow damage. If that foe's Health is above 50%, you steal up to 12...41 Health.

Prophesies- Shadow Strike- Target foe takes 12...41 shadow damage. If that foe's Health is above 50%, you steal 12...41 Health.

Core- Vampiric Gaze- Steal up to 18...52 Health from target foe.

Core - Order of Pain- Sacrifice 17% Health. For 5 seconds, whenever a party member hits a foe with physical damage, that party member does an additional 3...13 damage.

(Soul reaping would have to be replaced) Nightfall - Signet of Sorrow- Target foe takes 15...63 damage. If target foe is near a corpse or has a dead pet, this Skill recharges instantly.

(Soul reaping would have to be replaced) Nightfall - Reaper's Mark- For 30 seconds, target foe suffers -1...4 Health degeneration. If that foe dies while Hexed with Reaper's Mark, you gain 5...13 Energy.

Resurrection Signet

I also had 16 in blood so damage output increases from what is listed. May be spelling his name wrong but Gordoks Hook Blood Green and a blood wand was used. Lifebane strike and Shadows strike used back to back can hit a foe with a bit of damage.

Blood is impossibly bad?

BiP?
Mark of Subversion?
Wells?
Orders?
Spoil Victor?

If you're planning to nuke and nuke alone, stick with elementalist skills - they're much better for it. If you like mild nuking with some interesting quirks and excellent party support, start a Necro.

Edit: I still like Curses better... but Blood doesn't suck.
